Leicester City edge closer to its first ever English Premier League crown

Close, but no cigar. Leicester City's hopes of celebrating its first ever English Premier League title were put on hold Sunday after a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

The league leaders, who at the start of this season were ranked as 5000-1 outsiders to win the league, had needed a victory at Old Trafford to secure the title.

But 20-time champion United quickly deflated the traveling Leicester fans' mood with a goal inside 10 minutes.

Antonio Valencia crossed from the right and the unmarked Anthony Martial swept the ball past the Leicester keeper Kasper Schmeichel.

However, a spirited Leicester team haven't come this far -- the draw put them eight points ahead of second place Tottenham Hotspur -- for nothing.

The visiting team launched a gritty fightback and soon after Martial's goal, experienced defender Wes Morgan headed in the equalizer.

The closing stages of the game must have made agonizing viewing for Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri after midfielder Danny Drinkwater was sent off in the 86th minute, while Schmeichel made a number of key saves.

The Premier League leader will now wait for the outcome of Tottenham's match against Chelsea Monday.

If Spurs fail to beat its opponent, Leicester will be crowned champion.
