Friday, February fourteenth, the UN says at least 22 people have been killed in a village in the Northwest region of Cameroon. Over half of those killed were children. No one has claimed responsibility for Friday’s incident but the opposition parties blame the killing on the government.

The Cameroonian authorities on Tuesday ignored the statements made by the leader of the Nigerian terror sect, Abubakar Shekau in a recent unauthenticated video in which he seems to predict his end. Reacting to the footage, the Minister of Defence, Joseph Beti Assomo declared on national television CRTV: "We do not pay importance to Shekau’s video".

An EgyptAir plane flying from Alexandria to Cairo was hijacked and forced to land in Cyprus on Tuesday but the passengers and crew were freed unharmed and the hijacker, whose motives remained a mystery, was arrested after giving himself up. Eighty-one people, including 21 foreigners and 15 crew, had been onboard the Airbus 320 flight when it took off, Egypt's Civil Aviation Ministry said in a statement.

An EgyptAir airliner has been hijacked and forced to divert to Larnaca airport on the south coast of Cyprus. Flight MS181, an Airbus A320 carrying 81 passengers from Alexandria to Cairo, was taken over after a passenger said he was wearing an explosives belt. Negotiations are under way but no demands have been made by those in control of the plane, reports say. A local journalist has told the BBC that some passengers had been seen leaving the plane. Larnaca airport has been closed and scheduled flights diverted elsewhere. "The pilot said that a passenger told him he had an explosives vest and forced the plane to land in Larnaca," the Egyptian civil aviation ministry said in a statement.

An anglophone family, Mr. Alfred Nkimih and his wife, Honorine Nshi, who lost four new born babies at the Yaounde Central Hospital, have blamed the tragedy on the lack of incubators at that health facility and on what Nkimih asserted in a write-up on his Facebook page as; wickedness and jealousy of the health personnel. Nkimih narrated that when his wife visited the hospital for follow-up that March 22; she had nothing to do with delivery because the pregnancy was only six months old. According to him, when the personnel insisted, his wife said they should then look for incubators, repeatedly stating that paying the bill will not be an issue.
Cameroon operate armoured vehicle for presidential protection

Cameroon is operating the Israeli Saymar Musketeer armoured vehicle, and using it for presidential protection. Cameroon’s Presidential Guard Reconnaissance and Support Group includes a Musketeer platoon, as well as fire support, anti-aircraft, and anti-terrorist units. The publication reports that Cameroon's Presidential Guard is the first known user of the vehicle, which is based on a Toyota Land Cruiser chassis.

The US Capitol was on lockdown on Monday after shots were apparently fired in the Capitol Visitors Center, police said, but local media said the gunman was injured and taken into custody. Those at the Capitol were ordered to shelter in place. Congress was in recess on Monday for the Easter holiday, but it is a busy week for tourists in Washington. "Shelter in place remains in effect as Capitol Police continue to investigate. Please stay in your assigned location," the Senate's Sergeant-at-Arms, the body's chief law enforcement officer, said on Twitter. Police cordoned off access to the Capitol building. An ambulance was at the scene. "There has been an isolated incident at the US Capitol. There is no active threat to the public," Washington police said on Twitter. The White House, where thousands were attending the annual Easter Egg Roll, was briefly on lockdown as well, but the order was quickly lifted.

Nigerian authorities have decided to send a delegation to Cameroon following the arrest on Friday of a suicide bomber said to be one of the schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram in Chibok, Nigeria. The delegation will include amongst others some of the parents of the abducted girls. The Nigerian delegation while in Cameroon would verify the identity of the girl aged fifteen years.

Authorities in Cameroon and Nigeria are investigating a claim from a would-be suicide bomber that she was one of a group of schoolgirls abducted in 2014. The Nigerian government is sending parents to Cameroon to attempt to identify the girl. She told investigators in Cameroon she was one of 270 kidnapped in Chibok by jihadist group Boko Haram. The abductions sparked international outrage and the #bringbackourgirls social media campaign.

Belgian police briefly used water cannon to control several hundred rowdy protesters in central Brussels on Sunday after they ignored an official call for marches to be postponed following Tuesday's bombings. Turkish Airlines, named Europe’s best airline for five years, has announced its decision to increase the number of routes and flights it offers in Nigeria, as well as its new status as Number One in Africa. US court sentences man to 3 years for threatening Obama on Facebook

A federal judge on Friday sentenced a Wisconsin man to three years in prison for threatening to kill U.S. President Barack Obama through a post on Facebook, court records showed. Brian Dutcher, 55, of Tomah was also sentenced to three years of supervised release on the felony charge, according to the order of U.S. District Judge William Conley. Conley also recommended that Dutcher receive a full mental health evaluation and treatment as necessary.
Dutch police arrest man suspected of planning terror attack

Dutch prosecutors say police have arrested a 32-year-old Frenchman in the port city of Rotterdam at the request of French authorities who suspect him of "involvement in planning a terror attack." Prosecutors said in a statement Sunday that French officials requested the arrest Friday after the suspect emerged during an investigation. The suspect, whose identity was not released, is expected to be extradited to France soon.
