Will Morocco replace Cameroon as African Football Cup host?

Rabat –  Morocco has been named as potential substitute for Cameroon as the host of the 2019 African Football Cup of Nations. Media reports indicate the kingdom might take over hosting privileges from the central African country amid criticism of decisions taken by the former president of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Issa Hayatou. Since the Madagascar Football Association chief Ahmed Ahmed succeeded Hayatou in March, the former president’s controversial TV contract with the French company Lagardere Sports has been brought into question by the new president.The hosting titles given to Cameroon for 2019, the Ivory Coast for 2021, and Guinea for 2023 were also criticized. The Moroccan sports news website “Hesport” said that CAF’s executive committee is due to meet soon to decide whether the three organizing countries have sufficient infrastructure to host the events. Foreign companies accused of destroying Cameroonian rainforests for palm oil

Since 2013, many Cameroonian activists and environmentalists have warned against the large-scale palm oil farming projects taking place in the country’s southwest region, arguing that the projects are a threat to Cameroonian rainforests. In the wake of generalized discontent from teachers trade unions of the Anglo-Saxon sub system of education on what leaders qualified as the erosion of its values, government has been striving to weather the storm. Ever since the teachers decided to down tools on 21 November 2016, government has been moving from negotiations to promises and fulfilment. The Prime Minister, Head of Government, by Order No. 118/CAB/PM of 8 November 2016 created a committee tasked with proposing solutions to the concerns of all teachers in Cameroon.
