Neymar set to sign new Barcelona contract as they look to fend off interest from Real Madrid

Neymar's new Barcelona contract will include a huge buyout clause totalling £174million in an attempt to fend off potential suitors, according to reports in Spain.

The Catalan club are desperate to keep hold of the Brazil captain and will reportedly take extreme measures to ensure he stays at the Nou Camp beyond this summer.

Neymar previously signed a five-year deal with Barcelona when he arrived from Santos in June 2013, and talks are ongoing regarding a new deal through until 2021.

The front page of Spain's Mundo Deportivo newspaper on Tuesday leads with Barcelona's 'top secret' offer to Neymar, which includes an 'escape clause' of €220m (£174m) - second only to Lionel Messi at the Nou Camp. Neymar's clause now is €190m (£153m).

There is optimism on all fronts that the 24-year-old will sign the improved deal, with confirmation expected before the start of next season.

There have been recent reports of interest from Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but Barcelona are keen to keep their star attacking trio of Messi, Neymar and Luis Suarez together.

Mundo Deportivo also report that Neymar's buyout clause will stay below Messi's no matter what in order to keep the Argentine as the club's most important player.
Neymar's future has been in doubt for a number of months due to current tax issues the Brazilian is facing. The Spanish media are reporting that any new contract would be on next season's books, and if any fine is handed out to Neymar, the club would help pay.

In April, Neymar's current contract was revealed by Football Leaks, and it emerged the Barcelona star earns just £77,000 a week despite being one of the main men at the club.

Suarez's basic wage is said to be north of £200,000, while strike partner Messi apparently earns more than £250,000 after tax.

Neymar, though, is able to earn a considerable amount more than his basic wage thanks to a number of bonuses inserted into his contract.

These include an £850,857 fee if he plays over 60 per cent of matches, while qualification to the Champions League - which has already been secured this season - earns Neymar an extra £510,563.

THE LEAKED BONUSES IN NEYMAR'S CURRENT BARCELONA CONTRACT

1. If Neymar plays 60% of matches (at least 45 minutes to complete a match) Barcelona is obliged to pay him €1,062,500 (£850,867).

2. Each time Barcelona qualifies for the Champions League, the Brazilian earns €637,500 (£510,563). The contract clarifies that this must be through finishing in a high enough position in La Liga, not via the play-offs.

3. Every time the Catalans qualify from the group stage, Neymar will receive €425,000 (£340,375).

4. Neymar has set a series of bonuses for each title Barcelona win. La Liga represents a premium of €637,500 (£510,563); the Champions League: €850,000 (£680,751) and the Copa del Rey: €850.000 (£680,751).

5. If Neymar wins the Ballon d’Or he will be awarded €425,000 (£340,375).

6. Neymar’s buyout is confirmed at €190m (£153m).
